BARREIRO IN BRIEF

Barreiro is a city and a district in Portugal, in the Setubal district. It is located on the left, southern shore of the Tagus backwaters, near Lisbon - the capital of the country, the center of economic, financial and cultural life of Portugal. The number of inhabitants of the entire district (8 communes) is 79 thousand and the population of the city itself ranges from 41,000. Barreiro is located in the Costa Azul (Blue Coast) region, which is a holiday region and is also in close proximity to the Portuguese capital, Lisbon.

Resolution No. LXXXV/824/98 of the City Council in Łódź passed on 29th April 1998 approving the cooperation agreement between Łódź and Barreiro.

PARTNER COOPERATION

The cooperation agreement between Łódź and Barreiro was signed on September 3rd, 1996 by the then President of the City of Łódź, Marek Czekalski and the President of the City of Barreiro, Pedro Canario. This ceremony was associated with the visit in our city of the Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Guterres. At the same time, an agreement was also signed between the European Institute and its Portuguese counterpart and between the Łódź Regional Development Agency and the Cooperation and Development Agency (Cooperaçăo e Desenvolvimento Regional) from the Setubal region in which Barreiro is located.
